Race is on for first gambling dedicated TV channel

Up to eight investment groups believed to be competing

Tuesday 9th November 2004

Inspired by the success of gambling related television shows, it is rumoured that there are now several groups of investors competing to be the first to launch a new TV channel entirely dedicated to producing gambling oriented programmes. It is believed there may be as many as eight groups of investors who are looking to be the first to bring the concept of a dedicated gambling channel into reality.

Most of the companies known to be interested are affiliated more with cable television interest than with casino or gambling companies. Casino Gaming Network Television, a Las Vegas based network is thought to be a front runner in the current contest, looking for distribution sometime next year.

Players Network, a group that is well established in the casino industry, having broadcast gambling related programming into casino hotel rooms for over a decade, are also a strong contender to be first to achieve the first gambling channel. It is estimated that whichever group succeeds will be looking at investing around US$200 million in order to develop the channel. However it is also thought that whoever wins this latest race will be looking at a lucrative business venture, and the raising of such initial capital should be no real obstacle for those with proposals containing key contact and content.
