Poker star is no Survivor
Friday 30th November 2007
Poker ace Jean-Robert Bellande has been voted off the reality television show, Survivor. The poker player and club owner had been doing rather well on the programme, but has been voted off the show despite appearing to be one of the stronger survivors in the group. Whether his poker playing skills had adequately prepared him for life on the island is not clear, although the star did suggest that he thought his mental toughness would help him deal with the interpersonal problems that can often be a person's downfall on such reality shows. "One of the things you do in poker is you're always looking a couple of moves down the road at an end-game strategy," he explained. His plan had been to be a "lazy jerk" during the first phase of the show and then become more likeable later in the series so as to give himself a good chance of winning Survivor. However, it seems the strategy backfired this time, as he never got to implement phase two of his masterplan.
