Devilfish Finishes Top in Poker Awards

Englishman awarded Player of the Year 2007 prize by CardPlayer Europe magazine

Thursday 31st January 2008

Poker publication CardPlayer Europe has awarded English professional poker player Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott with its Player of the Year honour.

Ulliot’s third-place finish at the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic on December 17 catapulted him to the top of the leader board with 3,446 points, overtaking Sweden’s Chris Bjorin on 3,375 points. Ulliott won $1.2 million in 2007, his most successful year in tournament poker, and made five major final tables.

Bjorin dominated the rankings for much of the year after an impressive World Series of Poker run that saw him make three final tables as well as a 15th spot finish at the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic.

Norwegian teen phenomenon Annette Obrestad finished third on 2,608 points after winning the World Series of Poker Europe main event in London and taking second in the European Poker Tour Dublin.

Russian player Alexander Kravchenko, who won a bracelet at the 2007 WSOP and made the final table of the main event, finished fourth with 2,579 points while Spain’s Juan Carlos Mortensen came fifth with 2,496 points.

Rene Mouritsen of Denmark finished sixth with 2,472 points followed by England’s Mark Teltscher on 2,344 points and Germany’s Florian Langmann with 2,040 points.

Rounding out the top ten were Gus Hansen of Denmark on 2,034 points and Italy’s Jeffrey Lisandro with 1,964 points.
