Online Casino Spending Big On Advertising

Company behind Norton security software discovers criminals targeting online casino players

Wednesday 12th March 2008

Online casino, bingo and poker site GetMinted.com is reportedly ready to spend upwards of two million dollars advertising offline throughout the UK over the coming months.

For the next two month, the Alderney-licensed site stated that it would be heavily promoting its bingo, slots and poker products offline through the use of posters in phone boxes, at rail stations and outside bingo halls. It stated that one-third of the activities would concentrate on bingo with posters sited strategically outside halls run by giants such as Mecca and Gala.

From April 25 to May 8, the site will be actively promoting its Monopoly Reel Estate video slot game from WagerWorks at rail stations around London.

“We estimate that 454,000 people come into London by rail every day during peak hours and 72 percent of those travelling into Central London use rail as their main mode of transport,” said Gloria Gonzalez, Head of Marketing for GetMinted.com.

“Each of these commuters will see the posters around ten times during the two-week campaign. Rail stations were a pertinent location to promote Monopoly given that you can buy train stations on the Monopoly board. There is a clever subtext to the location of these posters.”

The final campaign will be for the site’s poker product and see phone boxes covered with posters of soccer player turned actor Vinnie Jones, the face of GetMinted.com’s poker offering, from May 2 to 25. The company stated that an estimated 6.6 million people will see these posters and it is betting that their movie-style look will replace advertising space traditionally reserved for Hollywood blockbuster films.
