Casino plan for Birkenhead

Friday 14th March 2008

A hotel, restaurant and casino development has been proposed for the Merseyside town of Birkenhead.

Europa Plaza Developments have submitted plans for a 120-room hotel and casino on the Conway Street area.

The plans also include a three storey restaurant on currently derelict land.

Planning officers in Wirral have recommended the hotel though the Liverpool Echo reports that the approval of a casino may prove controversial as gaming did not form part of the authority’s development policy for the area.

The paper reports that the hotel would be on 1.35 hectares of land next to the Europa Pools and the VUE cinema.

The council's planning committee will consider the applications on Thursday, March 27th.
