Online casinos get tough on underage betting

Carmen Media has promptly announced that it is suspending the Solo Debit method of payment

Tuesday 3rd August 2004

Following the report by children’s charity NCH, exposing flaws in the system that could potentially allow children to gamble online, Carmen Media, the group that owns, amongst others, The River Belle and Lucky Nugget Casinos, has promptly announced that it is suspending the Solo Debit method of payment.

The controversy surrounds the fact that banks will often issue Solo cards to under eighteens, making it difficult for online gaming operations to determine a customer’s real age.

William Hill yesterday called for banks to adopt a more responsible attitude, adding that the online gaming industry was doing everything in its powers to guard against underage gambling.

Tim Johnson, CEO of Carmen Media said that the company was committed to responsible gaming adding: ' We support Andrew McIntosh (Minister for Gambling, UK) in his efforts to introduce legislation to enforce verification checks. We are licensed in Gibraltar, a British Dominion, and take all issues relating to the protection of our customers very seriously indeed.'
