Doyle Brunson vs. Patrik Antonius – Heads Up!

Three way chop sees Tsipor cash $147,561 for his first place finish

Tuesday 25th March 2008

Two of the biggest icons of the game, each from their own distinct poker upbringings, look to be ironing out the details for a heads-up match which has the poker world drooling at the chops. Or flops, in this instance. Finnish poker player and non-believer in buttoned shirts Patrik Antonius is set to tangle with The Godfather of Poker, Doyle ‘Texas Dolly’ Brunson.

In a magazine article, Antonius issued a challenge to the poker legend, who seems to have picked up the gauntlet thrown - quite athletically, we suspect - by the Finn.

In his blog, Antonius is hopeful that the match will come to fruitition:

'I will try and talk to Doyle and iron out the details. No matter who wins, it will be an amazing experience playing Doyle, one of the great legends of all time, heads up for over a million dollars,' Antonius wrote. 'I am getting excited just thinking about it.'

Brunson also appears up for the fight, replying in his own blog:

'I really like Patrik and I think he is a great player, but he cast the gauntlet and I'm prepared to do battle. So, I accept his challenge,' Brunson said in his DoylesRoom.com blog.

It doesn’t appear that Doyle wants to do things by halves either, following on by disclosing:

'I’ve got seven to ten different games, all of which I've played in Las Vegas casinos for high stakes, that I'm willing to commit to for at least a seven-figure match,' Brunson writes. 'There will be no animosity between us; we are both pros who love a good gamble. It will be interesting if he accepts, and I'm sure we will both have a great time playing.'

Not half as much as fun as we’ll have spectating, Dolly.
