PokerStars Make WSOP Investment

PokerStars.com budgets $12.5 million to send up to 1,000 online qualifiers to Las Vegas tournament

Thursday 27th March 2008

Online casino PokerStars.com has announced that it has set aside over $12.5 million in order to send 1,000 lucky players to Las Vegas for the upcoming World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament.

The site stated that it would be running a multitude of tournaments and qualifiers leading up to the big event in July in hopes of sending 1,000 top players to Nevada with a sponsorship package worth in excess of $12,500 each. In addition, it will offer regular players the opportunity to trade in their Frequent Player Points for a seat along with holding step-based sit-and-go competitions as part of the satellite mix with buy-ins as low as two dollars.

The full Main Event prize package from PokerStars.com includes the $10,000 buy-in along with $2,500 in spending money and eight nights' complimentary hotel accommodation at the nearby Palms with upgrades available for Supernova and Supernova Elite VIP members.

PokerStars.com stated that it has sent over 3,600 players to the WSOP’s Main Event since 2002 and is also offering cash incentives to online qualifiers who perform well with those making the televised final table rewarded with up to $50,000.
