WSOPE Back In London

Lucky ‘Christophe R’ takes home over $330,000 after winning on JackpotCity.com online slot

Wednesday 26th March 2008

Online gambling provider Betfair has announced that it will be sponsoring the second annual World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) tournament.

The event is taking place from in London from September 19 to October 1 and, as with the inaugural event, will be hosted by London Clubs International at its Fifty, The Casino at the Empire and Sportsman venues.

“It was a clean sweep for the Europeans last year,” said Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner for the WSOP.

“There are many, many talented players in the European poker community and I think it caught some of the world’s best-known poker players by surprise. It’s safe to say the pros haven’t forgotten about last year and the young guns should expect a tougher fight in 2008.”

Betfair has already given away two seats worth $23,000 each to the upcoming tournament through its $50,000 Final online tournament with the next set due to be given away on April 20. Daily satellites to qualify for this tournament start from as little as $5.50 and those not lucky enough to win their seat at the final could still walk away with a portion of $4,000 in prize money.

“Last year produced a fantastic tournament which exceeded all expectations,” said David Yu, Chief Executive Officer for Betfair.

“Online qualification for the 2008 event is already underway so we’re expecting an even better contest this time around.'

'We look forward to again serving as hosts for this prestigious event,” said Michael Silberling, Chief Operating Officer for London Clubs International.

“A first-class tournament at our properties promises to bring out the best poker players in the world.”
