EPT Grand Final - Bensoussan leads after day one
Monday 14th April 2008
Cyril Bensoussan is the player moving into day two of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final with the biggest chip stack.
The Frenchman made 135,000 during day 1b of the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Casino Resort event in Monaco, almost 24,000 more than second place Stephen Kjaerstad who led day 1a.
A record field of 842 participants was whittled down to 400 over the weekend and a number of the world's best players were among those eliminated.
Day 1a saw the dismissals of Annette Obrestad, Tony G, Phil Ivey and Erick Lindgren, while Chris Moneymaker, Bertrand Grospellier and reigning champion Gavin Griffin all went home on day 1b.
Numerous top professionals survived the first day's action, however, including Barry Greenstein, Marcel Luske and Patrik Antonius from 1a and Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso and Joe Hachem from 1b.
The EPT Grand Final is the biggest tournament on the European poker calendar and the winner will receive 2.02 million ($3.2 million).
