Selbst leads WPT Ladies Championship

Vanessa Selbst is currently on top at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Ladies Championship with just the final table left to be played.

The New Jersey resident, who picked up her first WPT title earlier this year at event nine of the LA Poker Classic, is in a commanding position with 182,200 chips - over 60,000 more than that second-placed Nancy Todd Tyner.

Donna Varlotto is third with 68,600, ahead of Van Nguyen (42,300), Janice Kim (32,900) and Cindy Kerslake (16,400).

Van Nguyen is arguably the best-known player in the field, having become the first woman to win a mixed-sex WPT event in March at the Celebrity Invitational.

She also became the first person in her family to win a WPT title, a feat made remarkable because she is married to Men Nguyen and also related to David Pham.

A field of 150 turned up to take part in the Ladies Championship, although there were some notable absentees.

Vanessa Rousso, for example, chose to play at this week's European Poker Tour Grand Final instead.
