Hansen 'not at his best at EPT: Grand Final'
Wednesday 16th April 2008
The Gus Hansen who crashed out of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final in Monte Carlo this week was not a man playing at his absolute peak.
At least this is what Hansen has suggest in his Playr.com blog, where he admitted that he was not playing his A game before being eliminated on day two.
"I will give myself a B for my performance, but since I needed lady luck at one crucial time, that wasn't enough to get the momentum going."
At his best, Hansen is one of the world's most formidable players, as his three World Poker Tour titles can attest.
However, at the EPT he "made two big mistakes" in calling large river bets that eventually led to his downfall.
Meanwhile Daniel Negreanu showed that even if you are playing brilliantly, it does not mean you are guaranteed to go through.
The Canadian said in his Full Contact Poker blog he thought he was in good form at the EPT finale, but was still eliminated on the same day as Hansen.
