Binger takes down Bellagio event
Thursday 17th April 2008
Michael Binger has won his first event at this year's Five-Star World Poker Classic in Las Vegas.
The local player took down event 13 at the Bellagio by outlasting Bruno Fitoussi in the heads-up.
Shannon Shorr, who had lead the chip count overnight, finished third.
Binger received $337,220 for his victory and improves his live tournament career winnings to roughly $5.5 million.
It is his second big win this season, following success at the LA Poker Classic earlier in the year.
That event, combined with good finishes at the Aussie Millions and several World Poker Tour (WPT) competitions put him 11th in Card Player's player of the rankings - and his latest triumph will likely move him up even higher.
Event 13 is the second to last contest before the WPT Championship, which gets underway this weekend. Arguably poker's second biggest competition, the winner's prize is likely to be worth in excess of $4 million.
