Chorny Leads EPT Monte Carlo

Esfandiari loses his grip on the tournament, while Isaac Baron leads the charge of the Internet Brigade

Thursday 17th April 2008

Day Four proved to be a long trek for those still in the hunt for the EPT Grand Final crowd. While Esfandiari took his stack of 1.6 million and redistributed the majority of it in one hand, a Canadian strolled into the chip lead, followed closely by one of the hottest players on the net.

Glen Chorny is a player who has already enjoyed some success this year, with a 13th place finish at the EPT Caribbean Adventure and a World Poker Open pot-limit Omaha win. Irrespective of where he finishes at this event, he will cash more than the two events combined.

At the other end of the success totem pole, Esfandiari was having a torrid time of it.

Glen 'DrC' Chorny has had a pretty sweet year so far; winning a World Poker Open pot limit Omaha event and finishing 13th in PokerStars EPT Caribbean Adventure. But whatever happens tomorrow, Chorny's is guaranteed to take home more than those two events combined. Antonio Esfandiari, who started Day 4 as chip leader, will also return for Day 5 but in less healthy shape after he lost a mammoth pot against Stig Top Rasmussen.

Antonio Esfandiari limped preflop, which was met by a shove from Rasmussen in the big blind for 700,000, with the blinds at 5,000-10,000. Esfandiari calls and shows a he had been getting crafty with pocket queens, while Rasmussen had been getting a little jiggy with Ace-Ten. The flop came with baby cards, but the ace on the turn meant Esfandiari shipped over one third of his chips to the Danish man.

The other familiar face to a global audience was that of Aussie Joe Hachem, who narrowly missed out on an EPT final table by finishing in eleventh. He flopped top pair on a ten high board against Isaac ‘westmenloAA’ Baron, but his six kicker was dominated by that of Baron, who ended up sending Hachem out of the tournament.

Overnight chip leaders coming into Day Five:

Glen Chorny - 3,370,000

Isaac 'westmenloAA' Baron - 2,365,000

Michael Martin - 1,579,000

Maxime Villemure - 1,220,000

Denes Kalo - 957,000

Antonio Esfandiari - 735,000

Luca Pagano - 705,000

Valeriy Ilikyan - 650,000

Stig Top Rasmussen - 590,000

Henrik Gwinner - 466,000
