Chorny takes Grand Final crown
Friday 18th April 2008
Glen Chorny became the biggest winner in European poker history last night, when he took down the European Poker Tour Grand Final event in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
The 22-year-old Canadian, who studies business at Wilfrid Laurier University, needed just two hands to beat Denes Kalo in heads-up play and receive the first place prize of $3.193 million.
Chorny has only been playing as a professional since January of this year and this is by far the biggest win of his career, being worth almost 40 times more than his only other victory to date.
Maxime Villemure finished in third place, followed by Card Player's 2007 online player of the year Isaac Baron, Michael Martin, Luca Pagano, Velriy Ilikyan and Antonio Esfandiari.
The $3 million plus jackpot is the biggest given out at any tournament so far this year, although it is likely to be eclipsed later in the week when the World Poker Tour Championship takes place at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
