Brunson picked WPT winner

Tuesday 29th April 2008

Doyle Brunson correctly predicted that David Chiu would win the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship last week, he has revealed.

The ten-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner wrote in his blog that he placed a wager on the Chinese professional before the final table because he believes him to be one of the best players in the world today.

Many people did not back Chiu going into the last day, with most expecting Gus Hansen to improve on his three WPT titles by taking down the tournament he had dominated for most of the week.

However, Brunson felt differently and picked the star to win, although he did not reveal how much he bet or what odds he received.

"I made a bet on David when the final table began because I have played some tournaments with David," he commented.

"He is one of the premier players in the game and also one of the nicest guys."

Chiu owns four World Series of Poker bracelets, which pails in comparison to Brunson's own collection of ten.
