Dusk Till Dawn Gets UK Poker Club Licence
Lucky Swede wins $330,000 on the Microgaming Poker Network
Wednesday 26th September 2007
Dusk Till Dawn has announced that it has finally been granted a licence by a magistrate for its Nottingham based poker club after the three day court case was resolved just over an hour ago.
Magistrates decided that the online poker room would be granted a licence as a poker venue only, after inspecting the premises yesterday. Speaking just after the decision was made, Dusk Till Dawn’s Adam O’Connell explained, “Obviously we are all absolutely delighted. The magistrate said that if we were applying for a casino licence then it would have been rejected but because they liked what we were doing, and that there was a demand for the type of poker club we were offering, they were willing to grant a licence as a poker only venue.”
The proposed opening of the card room attracted stiff opposition from London Clubs International, Gala and Stanley Leisure who claimed that there wasn’t sufficient interest to justify its opening. However, after LCI pulled out of the case on day one, Gala and Stanley Leisure listened to the magistrate rule in Dusk Till Dawn’s favour – news that will please poker fans across the UK.
“On the second day the magistrates inspected the club and we think this might have swung things in our favour, as they were very impressed and had a lot of questions about it,” continued O’Connell. “After the final speeches today, we had quite a long wait for the verdict, which was a very nerve wracking experience.”
O’Connell added that The Dusk Till Dawn poker club is heading for a mid-November opening.
