Favourite wins 1,000 Guineas

Bookies favourite Natagora was the winner of this year's 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The Christophe Lemaire-ridden grey led the race from the start and finished half a length in front of Spacious. Saoirse Abu was third.

In the other big race of the Newmarket meeting, Henrythenavigator came from behind to earn victory in the 2,000 Guineas.

Favourite New Approach dominated most of the contest but the Aidan O'Brien-trained horse came back at him in the end to clinch the title.

Winning jockey Johnny Murtagh commented afterwards: "My fellow really answered the call in the last few strides. It keeps getting better."

On the other side of the Atlantic, favourite Big Brown rode to glory in the US's most famous horse race the Kentucky Derby.

It is the third time trainer Rick Dutrow Jr has had a winner in the major event.

Eight Belles finished second but broke two of her ankles in the race and had to be put down afterwards on the track.
