Will Winston play in the WSOP opener?
Friday 9th May 2008
The question as to whether Roy Winston will play in the first event of this year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) or not has yet to be resolved.
In his latest article for Card Player, the World Poker Tour titlist said he was still not certain he would be at the start of the biggest occasion on the poker calendar, as he is tempted to accept an invitation from the organisers of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) instead.
The start of the WSOP is attracting most of the best players in the sport, with Shannon Shorr coming back from holiday to compete, for example.
But Winston's friendship with APT tournament director Matt Savage may hold the key to him heading to Manila over Las Vegas.
A WSOP bracelet is notably missing from Winston's trophy cabinet, with his best performance at the series a 26th place in the 2007 main event, for which he earned more than $330,000.
