Crown Casino And The Missing $100,000 Chip

Sunday 11th May 2008

While it is difficult enough to make money on the casino floor, Australian leader Crown Casino has reported the loss of a $100,000 gaming chip from a high security area of the company's back office. The theft appears to have taken place in 2006 and while there was no mention of this at the time, one of Australia’s leading newspapers has obtained details of the incident under the freedom of information act. So what happened?

It seems that someone acting alone gained access to the inner workings of the Victoria casino and simply picked up the $100,000 chip and walked away. Despite having a number of cameras in place and interviewing an array of staff members there is no trace of the thief or the chip. The ‘house’ is still down a whopping $100,000 and someone somewhere must be sitting at home counting their loot!

Even though it is unclear exactly what happened, this theft has shocked many in the industry who believed that companies such as Crown Casino had not only watertight security but a camera system that should pick up everything. It has recently been confirmed that security and the camera system have received a major upgrade but the trail of the missing $100,000 chip is as cold as ever.
