Poetic Justice With $97 Million Lottery Win

While for many people the impact of Hurricane Katrina may be long gone, the same cannot be said of those who lost homes, families and their lives in the deadly hurricane which ripped through the US. Perhaps it is poetic justice that Carl Hunter, who lost his two homes in the hurricane, has claimed the largest Powerball jackpot in the history of the Louisiana State Lottery.

Even though all of the money in the world cannot make up for the aftermath of the hurricane, it can help to take away some of the financial pressures which it created. It was also confirmed that while the win has just been claimed this week, the ticket was actually bought in January and the jackpot claim goes back to the 16th January draw. It seems that Carl Hunter, a construction company owner, was waiting until he had finished some of his outstanding construction work before stepping forward.

In comparison to the US lottery the UK equivalent is very much in its early days, something which is reflected by the often massive gap in the prize pool.
