Poker Players Alliance Set To Appeal
Friday 16th May 2008
They went into the court room with what they thought was a winning hand only to find that the judge has declared a null and void game. Representatives of the Poker Players Alliance were sent reeling from this weeks King County Superior Court decision which upheld the Federal ban on online gambling. Despite entering the court room in a bullish mood and with a point to prove, it was all to no avail.
They had argued that the online gambling ban was illegal under the US constitution but the judge disagreed and stated that the law is Constitutional and therefore legal. Lee Rousso, who is a member of the Poker Players Alliance and represented the Alliance in court, is adamant that he has a strong case and has vowed to take the fight to appeal.
Rousso has added an interesting angle to the mix claiming that the ban on online gambling discriminates against internet companies in order to protect the traditional casino venues of the US. This is an argument which has been levelled at the US authorities on a number of occasions but one which has not yet been proven in a court of law. The fight goes on, but are the cards stacked against the Poker Players Alliance?
