WPT Canada won by Wintermans
Friday 16th May 2008
Keith Wintermans emerged from the River Rock Casino Resort in British Columbia with his first ever major poker title this week.
The 35-year-old took down the inaugural World Poker Tour (WPT) Canada tournament, which was the main event of the Coast to Coast Poker Championships.
Patrick McCaw was the man he beat in the heads-up, but he also outlasted a host of top players, including Brad Booth, Antonio Esfandiari and Gavin Smith.
Smith and Esfandiari have both won WPT events in the past.
"Taking down first place this year feels even better because I was on the short stack for a lot of the tournament," commented Wintermans.
"I had more than a few lucky spots along the way, but I was a lot more patient this year and it paid off."
The software consultant received $224,100 for his victory, which he almost rounded up to $230,000 when he finished sixth at event seven of the championships later in the week.
