The Sands Of Time Return

Saturday 17th May 2008

While the Sands Casino name has been missing from the US casino industry for some time it seems that it is about to make a much awaited comeback. Prior to being demolished, the famous Sands Casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City were frequent hosts to the so called ‘Brat Pack’ of actors when they were in town and attracted a lot of press attention. So what is happening?

The company are bringing back the Sands Casino with the opening of a new venture in the US on the site of the old steel works in Bethlehem. The venture has already received its fair share of press coverage but not everyone seems likely to welcome the casino with open arms.

Commonly known as the Christmas city (for obvious reasons) the Bethlehem population feel that the introduction of a casino will change the image and the marketability of the city forever. They believe that the image which they have built up over decades is in danger of been demolished in the name of gambling.

While traditional industries in Bethlehem continue to struggle many people are still unsure about the introduction of a casino element. Unfortunately in the current economic climate there is probably very little that they can do as the need for employment grows.
